The Illegal Discussion, Part II

After writing part I, i realized i hadn't got to the part where i tied in with the name of the blog.

There are stories trickling in through the internet and news media about illegal immigrants who are squatters from Mexico and other Latin Amercian countries claiming land in the United States, and the landowners running them off their property. These facts in and of themselves isn't too surprising. What is astonishing, however, is the fact that the squatters are suing the landowners in American courts and winning (resulting in the land being given back to the squatters). Is it just me, or is there something inherently wrong with that? The fact that non-US citizens that have illegaly entered our country are being given the rights of US citizens is appaling. There should be no discussion about rights or policy or amnesty -- these people have broken the laws of a powerful and soverign nation and should be punished accordingly.

One might compare the punishment of illegals to the repression that started the civil rights movements in the 60's and 70's; however, civil rights can only be extended to US citizens. Non-US citizens are not entitled to free speech, freedom of press, the right to peacefully protest and gather, the right to pay taxes,, and all of the other freedoms established in the Bill of Rights. What we are doing by allowing this to happen is telling the rest of the world that the most powerful country in the world is a doormat. We are allowing other countries to dictate policy and laws to the US (a soverign nation need i remind you...).

I, for one, am glad that John Kerry did not win the election. During the debates, Kerry talked about wanting the US to pass the "global test" and try criminals in the "global court". The last thing we need is for the US to bow down at the feet of other countries, handing over our legal power to them. Same thing applies to immigration. By allowing illegal immigrants into this country without reprocussion, we are saying to everyone else that they ultimately have control of US laws. This needs to stop (personally and unprofessionally, i think we need to build a concrete and chain link/razorwire fence along the whole border to keep them out).

Once we devise a plan to keep them out, how do we rid our country of the illegals that are already here? A systematic and thurough investigation. Give the police forces the power to detain illegal aliens (as of right now, they don't have that power...). Allow citizens to perform a citizen's arrest and detain illegals as well. You never know, it just might work.

I'm not saying we never allow immigrants into the US. Every year, numerous people seek asylum or just a new life in the US for a number of reasons. I'm all for it, as long as they go through the correct channels and learn English if they dont already know it. Make them live here seven years (as instructed by the Constitution) before they're granted the rights of every US citizen. The people that do it the right way are the real heroes of the world. Only the real villans would sneak into a country and steal its economy away from its people.

Well, thats all i have right now. Look for a part III sometime soon.
