I live in Northern Virginia, about 45 minutes and 15 miles from Washington DC (for those of you who live here, you know why it takes 45 mintues to 15 miles...), in a little court called Campaign. I live in a townhouse in middle class suburbia thats worth about $400,000 (real estate is the investment of choice around here...).
Yet in this seemingly picturesque town of about half a million, we have one major problem. Its not the sometimes tyrranical Home Owners Association. Its not the politician-designed roadways. Its not the speed limits that are set way too low. Its not even the lack of a music scene (though on my chart that comes in at a close #2). Our problem is an economy that is being slowloy and methodically drained by illegal immigrants.
Now, i must preface my last statement with this: i have no problem with someone that wants to come to Amercia because of what we stand for or the oppertunities that our garunteed freedoms (which are also slowly being sucked down a giant toilet...); as long as they do it legally. I applaud the families that come from Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico, France, Spain, Germany, and everywhere else in the world who leave everything and everyone behind to start a new life not for themselves, but for their childeren and their childeren's childeren. That takes courage.
Only cowardice sneaks into a country that has its arms wide open (sometimes a little too wide...) and that is willing to accept them in if they would only do things the right way. Cowardice gets paid in cash under the table so they can buy their expensive Harley Davidson Ford F-900050's with the all chrome package and lime green spinners (or half a million dollar houses that house 80 families when its made for two people and a toddler). Only cowardice stands in the streets of a free country, excercising a freedom they dont rightfully have, declaring they are here to stay no matter what (even though they have broken the law).
I wonder how many know that there is a movement in Mexico to take back California and Texas, land that we fought for in the Mexican-American War and then purchased from Mexico.
As far as the drain on the economy i talked about, here's what's happening. Illegals are coming to the US and working, getting paid cash for their troubles. That same cash is then getting sent back to Mexico or wherever the Illegal comes from, and being spent in the Mexican economy. This causes US currency to leave the country and the US economy, lowering the amound of money in circulation, leading to inflation, and ultimately a recession in the economy. Personall i think this problem could have been avoided if Congress had kept the idea of a backed currency (each dollar or peice of money, instead of the paper being worth something by itself, represents an amound of gold). The amount of money in the country would be consistent with the amount of money stored in the national treasuries. We need to go back to that because once the society finds out that money is only worth what you think its worth, were going to be in some major trouble. Until then, i'll gladly pay 400 pieces of green paper for that ESP guitar.
The United States need to doubletime it in coming up for a solution to this problem. Its going further than just a local hassle--its becoming a national problem.
